As a consequence of the war with Iran, oil prices are expected to rise dramatically on monday. Simultaneously, Danish shipping company Mærsk which has a 15 percent global market share, is now forced to route their containerships away from the strait of Hormuz and sail around the entire continent of Africa, which will further damage the world economy.

But of course, Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump thought about this before running guns blazing into Iran to distract from The Epstein Files, right?

@randahl Why would the container ships be in the strait of Hormuz?
@rubbel That's a really good question
Maybe @randahl can enlighten us?
@jens @rubbel @randahl maybe going to and from the container ports in Dubai?

@rubbel @randahl
@jens

Trade with Kuwait, Bahrein, Qatar, UAE and Iran that goes to Afrika, Europe, the Far east, South America's, Canada and Ameribarf... Actually any part of the world. Other than oil, Like China, there is a lot of 'make' industry, Distribution and re-distribution, But also fertilizers, plastics and the like. The area is a major trading hub.

@bitchboss Randal talks about diverting traffic south of Africa. I fail to see what the Strait of Hormuz has to do with shipping passing the Suez Canal? @rubbel @randahl
Red Sea / Gulf of Aden situation

You can find here all the latest information, as well as vessel contingency and surcharge updates.

@bitchboss That still doesn't explain Randal mixing up the situation in the Strait of Hormuz with the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea.
The latter explains the diversion of traffic south of Africa🙂

@jens @bitchboss

The areas of no-go for Maersk ships also the Suez, so that might explain it.

@randahl Welcome to the Epstein War.
@randahl I expect so, yes. You can take market positions that can benefit from any market movement, up or down.
@randahl Are trying to suggest that the world economy is more important stopping an US audience from discussing the Epstein files for a couple of days?
@randahl I can't wait until oil and gas become prohibitively expensive and everyone finally fully commits to renewables!
@randahl
don't worry, without russia and the gulf countries, Europe can still buy gas and oil from the USA

@randahl
So Putin will be happy, he will be able to afford another year of war in Ukraine...

I thought he was pissed.

@randahl amazing how many people lack the skill to google an answer before asking a question.
@randahl yup. And don't forget, this is a war on demand. Trump-circle companies already have extra big deals by middle-east states, they pressed Trump to get this war going. It's in their and with the deals in Trumps interest.
@randahl
As the Administration and shareholders in an oil-producing State, they probably did.
@randahl When we decide to name this war I don't think "World War 3" should be used. "World War Dumb" seems the most appropriate

@barryallen2023 @randahl

I believe the White House and the Pentagon have named it 'Operation Epstein Furry' , or something close to that.

#OperationEpsteinFurry

@randahl Look at it this way, since we cannot trust international shipping due to wars, we need to create and consume locally!!
And since international shipping contributes massively to the climate emergency, win win!!
Hmmm, wonder if and when the shipping thing will effect my job, I'm a gig last mile package courier. I suppose if'n I time it right, I can take a break while things slow down and make a trip out to S Carolina that I need to make, I roll electric, so none of this should impact my travel costs.
