Today, I'm embarking on a trip to Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Taiwan with @ubahnverleih and @robbi5! 🇭🇰🇨🇳🇹🇼

Do I have any followers there who might want to meet up? Or any recommendations on what to do/see/eat?

Tried to decode the Chinese menu on the plane, and I think I'll have endless fun with that! :D

Butter is 牛油 – cow oil!
Ice cream is 雪糕 – snow pudding!
Potato is 土豆 – ground bean!
Tomato is 番茄 – foreign eggplant!

It's the end of a very long and very nice first day in Hong Kong!

There's a lot of cool-sounding birds & plants! The density of skyscrapers is ridiculous. Things seem old and new, forgotten and well-maintained at the same time. The food is plentiful and ridiculously cheap!

@blinry my wife and I just recently went to Hong Kong and it is such a delightful city. If you have time in your schedule for it, I'd recommend walking the world's longest non-contiguous escalator path, often called the Central-Mid-Levels Escalators, starting on Jubilee St in Central Hong Kong. It is such a fun way to take in the city at various levels and takes you past some of its awesome foreign and local cuisine options, popping you right near the top of Victoria Peak.

@blinry

when I was there with my family some time ago, we took the bus to the beach on the south side of Hong Kong island.

@blinry @ubahnverleih @robbi5 Ha, I should have sent you parcel to take - sending stuff there is a nightmare.

I don’t know of it's around anymore, but north of Sham Shui Po station there are lots of tech stores.

When I ventured into one of the less polished building, I saw a lot of small stores mostly doing refurbishment - checking disks for bad sectors, installing operating systems etc., lots of second hand hardware.
And they still smoked in there :D

I got a couple of 500 GB HDD there eight years ago when I was still a broke student on exchange.

@marble @blinry @robbi5 yes, that’s the Golden Computer Centre and Golden Computer Arcade
@ubahnverleih @blinry @robbi5 that’s the name!

I hope I don’t misremember the restaurant, but I think it was the Treasure Island Beach Club on Lantau island where I enjoyed a very tasty portabello burger back then 🤤
@blinry @ubahnverleih @robbi5 Für Huaqiangbei unbedingt mehr Zeit einplanen, ich war nur einen Abend und einen kompletten Tag dort unterwegs und das hat nicht im Ansatz gereicht. Generell lohnt sich Shenzhen total, also bloß keinen Tagestrip, sondern unbedingt länger dort bleiben!
@blinry @ubahnverleih @robbi5 лек път!

Amazing, hope you have an amazing time. Not sure how long you're in HK for, but I highly recommend:

- Hong Kong Heritage Museum in Sha Tin

- Tian Tan Buddha + Tai O Fishing Village in Lantau Island.

- Pineapple Bun (bolo bao) - They're available all around, but if you happen by Sheng Shui station (Hong Kong's New Territories area), the best one I had was from Kwong Sing Café which is a short walk away

HK-style cafe, comfort food 😊

@blinry @ubahnverleih @robbi5 the Buddha (there's a great vegan place up there) and the fishing village on Lantau island is very nice and a very different scenery. I was in HK alone several times and would look for second hand stores and then see where that trip would take me. Just wandering around the city. Also make sure to try the bubble egg waffles! Ahh HK, I would really like to visit again. Enjoy your stay and eat all the things!
