Cute gecko doing its best to blend in on a tree in suburban Melbourne this afternoon.

For 30+ years I'd never seen a gecko in the wild here, but increasingly noticed them over the last decade.

Turns out there are actually 10 species here in Victoria - nine native and one introduced.

@imalcolm woww he DOES blend in! We had more anoles (new world chameleons) when I was in Florida, but now in Arizona, a few of those, but also LOTS of geckos.

It was definitely effective! I was fortunate to be standing right by the tree and saw its outline at a slight angle, or would have completely missed it.

I'd never heard of anoles but just checked them out and they look amazing! I'm always fascinated by any kind of chameleonic creatures.

So cool there's lots of geckos in Arizona too - absolutely my favourite kind of lizard. 😎 🦎

@imalcolm they are SO cool. And they're such good bug catchers. Saw one mid chomp the other day.
