New style of hostile architecture: Stairs that fold up for the night!

#HostileArchitecture #CDMX

@MegaMichelle But... it seems like folding them up creates a nice place to sleep where they were?

@knord

Does it? It looked to me like it'd be easier to sleep on the stairs if they were flat.

@MegaMichelle They look pretty narrow to me, but I'm not there!

@jackie

Is this meant to mean that I'm a white person and that, if I weren't, these fold-up stairs would not seem novel to me?

Dang. I hadn't seen this particular style in America. They have benches with bars in the middle so you can't lay down, and spikes on some surfaces. But I hadn't seen fold-up stairs before.

@MegaMichelle even as pākehā i am a little speechless at your read there. but it's no big deal.

no, with that single character, i'm directing you to draw upon it with a waxy stick.

@jackie

Sorry. We just moved to mexico and everyone here hates us and it says "fucking gringos go home" on every wall. It's freaking me the heck out.

I thought you were one of these locals. Even so, I shouldn't have dumped that on you.

@MegaMichelle oh, i had no idea. but i come from settler families myself. if rewi alley taught me anything, it's that your best bet is to join in on the action. graffiti has historically been a key tool of settler terror, for example in palestine, so it is necessary to have very strong anticolonialist messaging in the streets.

@jackie

Yeah, the leftist activists is exactly who I had hoped to befriend here. That's who I was friends with back home. But the most visible leftist activism here is telling me they don't want me here, and I don't know how to help them with that. Like, if I really wanted to help them, I guess I'd just go home and wait for them to start throwing trans people in the concentration camps, but I'd rather not.

@jackie

And I'm super triggered right now because I just went to the grocery store that's on the intersection that was the site of a "gringos go home" protest yesterday.

I better get off the internet. I need to save this stuff for my therapist instead of dumping it on random strangers on the internet.

@MegaMichelle it also could just be a safety feature to make break-ins more difficult
