The thing is, OSM data is ment for free usage, because it is compiled by volunteers, and to power everybody.
When a corporation uses it -and makes money with it- the result is not just that all volunteers become free workers for corporations, it also powers corporations to overtake those places of small companies again, and save €millions, which could have been invested in the OSM project.
@lokjo @thibaultmol And that's why there is a Corporate membership and other forms of support.
Yes I know, I've wrote about that a while ago.
It's not good since 1) it's voluntairely, and 2) the highest membership fee for companies who have a "revenue in the hundreds of millions" is €30.000 per year, which is rediculously low.
The real question is: do OSMF need much more money? Are there any plans what to do with them? They can easily increase fee if needed (and agreed)

Also donations and membership fees are much better for foundation. You are not doing this for profit.
@mkyral @thibaultmol @lokjo Overture exists *because* the OpenStreetMap community rejected the “leadership” of those companies.
Just look at OSMF Board elections for the ca. 10 years beforehand. Constantly full of “I'll be the candidate for Facebook, and we should replace everything with AI, or we're dooomed!”
@lokjo I don't think this question is a good use of time.
The OSM licence allows corporations to use OSM data w/o a fee. I don't think you'll get the OSM community to do a licence change (again!) to block this.
Like it or not, corporations will always be allowed to use OSM data w/o a fee.
