I torpedoed a job applicant who'd been recommended by a supervisor in another department because her résumé claimed she'd graduated "suma cum laude." (It's "summa," not "suma.") Lied to the recommender about why she didn't get the job.
With all the autocorrect in word processing software and mobile keyboard software it is hard to keep such mistakes out, as it requires constant checking and correcting again and again.
To not hire someone for that one mistake is extremely petty, but who would want to work for a person like the fesser who is so ridiculously pedantic anyway? The applicant was probably quite lucky.
