Okay so no one told me you’re supposed to sell RSUs and diversify, and I’m embarrassed to say how much money I’ve lost over that lack of information.

I guarantee I’m the only person in my family who even knows what RSUs are.

I’m aware there are books and financial advisors, but it’s frustrating that personal finance is something I have to figure out on my own, much like so many other things in my life as the eldest child of immigrants. Sigh.

@paolamata the one that got me (for about $13k lost) was not knowing that the cost basis wouldn’t be imported as the right value from etrade, so whenever the topic comes up I try to mention it now.

(I was able to get most of the money back by filing amended returns)

@Catfish_Man genuinely afraid of how much I’m going to owe in taxes this year. It was my first year of having RSU’s vest.

@paolamata @Catfish_Man I would expect an employer to withhold ordinary income taxes and FICA taxes upon vesting.
