also: if you deal with a gmail account though an email client like thunderbird, check that deleting emails actually deletes them instead of sending them to the "all email" folder.
There's an obscure setting somewhere that you need to flip around.
I ...also need to check that they didn't switch it back while I wasn't looking.

you can just block notifications by category (at least on android, long press a notification and use the top right gear). if an app is sending you shit you don't want, kill it with fire

(and if you do want to see it, you can at least silence / make it take up less space in the notification bar, etc. android notification settings are quite good)
