Okay which is the least athletic sport, golf or bowling?
@alysondecker Darts! There are not many sports you can be actively playing with a beer in your other hand!

@alysondecker I had a friend who was obsessed with having a clear definition of what you can call a sport. He had a lot of reasoning behind it. Like race car driving was not a sport because the machine does the work. I wish he were on Mastodon to answer.

I’m going to say bowling because at least with golf you can get some walking in as well.

@LoganFive OOOH! I want to hear his thoughts on bobsled.

@alysondecker He would probably debate on whether they are using their muscles or just gravity.

To me, it seems like they’re mostly trying not to die. I mean, can we see a sack of potatoes go down the run as a comparison?

@LoganFive and it’s powered by that sprint- which isn’t just pushing a pedal.
@alysondecker Golf. Ride electric go-kart. Swing weird walking stick. ride electric go-kart more. look for ball. At least bowlers lift an 8kg weight, run a little & roll it somewhere.
@weezmgk yeah the weightlifting aspect has me thinking bowling is more a “sport”.
@alysondecker with the binary choice I’d say golf. Either one can be done at different levels by people of different physical condition, but swinging a 10-16 pound bowling ball takes more work than swinging a less-than 1 pound golf club. But I’d add fishing to the mix (there are tournaments and school teams so it has to count as a sport, right?) and I think it would win.
@geekdad ::fishing enters the chat then realizes it does not want to be in the chat::
@alysondecker they both have beer delivered to you while you’re playing, but I think bowling is a little less athletic because they’ll also bring cheese fries.
