Trump's SOTU speech is said to be at least two hours long, possibly three. Don't watch. He won't say anything you can't read about in five minutes tomorrow, and you know he cares A LOT about ratings.

Do yourself a favor and watch something else. TCM is running the 1944 movie "Gaslight" tonight—it's where the term "gaslighting" comes from. I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

@sellathechemist @augieray ...ironically, the producers of the 1944 film tried to gaslight people into thinking it was the first "Gaslight" film. They were remaking a 1940 film of the same name and story, but when they bought the rights they specified that all copies of the 1940 version be destroyed including the original negatives ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaslight_(1940_film) ).

Someone should remind Trump that short sharp speeches are more memorable and significant.

The best example of this is Lincoln's Gettysburg speach. Lincoln was the secondary speaker, the primary speech was 2hrs long and almost completely forgotten.

@augieray I am going to skip the SOTU but will watch Stephen Colbert after. It helps to have this disaster of an administration sprinkled with snarky comments and a lot of humor. There isn’t a whole lot to laugh about anymore which makes Colbert’s ability to find the funny very much appreciated.

The listener's brain stops trying to make it make sense, gets bored, & goes into passive absorption "waiting for it to be over" mode. Dangerous.
