(by scale I am presuming you mean number of users?!)
With any "new" technology you do have to appeal to the "early adopter" crowd. The people who pride themselves on being first.
We have to build that core group of advocates, who then bring in the wider group.
We also have millions of people who are disgruntled with "big tech" so finding those overlaps, where disgruntled meets curiosity is where we aim for.
IMHO!

@MrLee Replace Reddit? Come on, you can try to replace StackOverflow or Youtube with same success... Reddit must do something extraordinary to ruin himself like Facebook did to start losing his users. Even NexusMods is still prospering despite their f-ups.
