13. #Potters / #Ceramics experts

So, uncomfortable subject but, what about leaders and rule enforcers? The anarchist in me would like to think that we could do without either, but the realist in me (who has studied human nature and psychology) has my doubts. What form of governance if any? Councils with finite terms? What about rules and safety? Or situations where it is one person's word against another's? Just some things to think about as we contemplate the type of society we want and need!

@DoomsdaysCW No wizards in my system, but the constabulary is selected by sortition, like jury duty or universal conscription. There does need to physical fitness testing and training, and the constabulary needs people trained in the law and ethics and other aspects of policing. A lot of that training intersects with the needs of an educated citizenry, so… universal education to the rescue!

What’s needed is a temporary constabulary that doesn’t itself become a social class.

@DoomsdaysCW Same thing for a magistracy selected randomly for fixed terms. All citizens are educated to know the law, so there isn’t as much need for legal guidance, but a trial does need something to act as final arbiter on legal decisions. Thus the limited magistracy. I’d keep something akin to the US court system with appeals and monitoring by “higher” courts.
