That video was sort of soundbite-ish, and it seemed to me that the vague ending of the vid suggests #GMO as the answer. It's not!

World’s Biggest Meatpacker JBS Wants Public Money to Fight Climate Change

JBS – the world’s largest meat company, with a net revenue of $3.1 billion in the second quarter of 2024 alone – is seeking more funding to combat climate change.  The company’s global CEO Gilberto Tomazoni complained in September that “currently, only four percent of climate change investment is directed toward agriculture and food systems” […]

Taking at least some of this tax loophole away will do no harm to family farmers but will help both public revenues & the environment.

“Just a shame the relief was not wholly abolished.”

🤯Look at the utterly cynical reply from the #FoodIndustry:

"Responding to Ipsos’s findings, the Food and Drink Federation, which represents most #FoodProducers, said companies should be allowed to develop healthier products – such as by removing salt, sugar and calories and adding fibre, fruit and vegetables – rather than face taxes."

Who does not allow corporations to develop healthier foods? To make them less sweet? To make them less salty? To use healthier ingredients?

I'm attending a harvest work party at Rake & Radish local farm in #Saanich on Wednesday morning til early afternoon. It's a small scale #QueerOwned farm. It's only 10 minutes from my home. I believe in what this small local farm is doing. I want to actively support them, with my boots & cane on their small farm grounds.

"Rake and Radish is a small-scale farm growing a wide range of vegetables, as well as berries and flowers, on half-acre plot at the base of PKOLS on unceded lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ territories.

At Rake and Radish Farm, I aim to queer farming and make fresh, delicious vegetables more accessible to people in our community.

I operate with a triple bottom line: environmental, financial, and emotional. This means holistic success that takes into account more than just the financial success of the farm operation. Regenerative land stewardship, a fulfilling social life, relationships, and time to recharge are all part of the farm’s measure of success."

> .. the theory and practice of agroecology have emerged as an alternative paradigm and vision for food systems. Agroecology is an approach to #agriculture and #foodSystems that mimics nature, stresses the importance of local knowledge and #participatory processes and that prioritizes the agency and voice of #foodProducers over #corporations and other elite actors.
