I, personally, don't stream music. No Pandora, no Spotify. I buy, or steal, my music, and it sits on my drive or my phone.

When I share with y'all, I mostly rely on video sites, obviously most commonly youtube.

But what *I'm* listening to is mp3's or flacs or oggs on my own computer.

I don't know whether you've noticed, but all of the streaming sites are extractive capitalist organizations.

They don't care about music. They don't care about musicians.

Sometimes, with noob musicians especially, I just send them money, w/o ordering an album.

I already got the album. I'm just giving them money cuz they deserve my support.

@GeePawHill parallel universe where home taping really did kill the music industry, and the game and film industries, and humanity enters a golden age
@GeePawHill i actually just want a service to download paid songs from w/o (or that I can strip out) DRM. I honestly find the streaming services all frustrating. Apple Music, for example, has been really bad and I feel it’s the best of the lot (well, UI wise no). So frustrating trying to use in a plane alongside actual music files. :-/
@awws Yeah. These are the bad guys.
@awws @GeePawHill There are a number of services that sell DRM-free, lossless music. The grand-daddy is Bandcamp, but there's others that started due to various concerns and issues with Bandcamp, like jam.coop. I thought I might have a current list of Fediverse-liked sites, but sadly I don't seem to.

@cks @GeePawHill band camp is a good example of where I _cannot_ buy the music I want legally. I am Unsure if it impossible to purchase drm free albums or singles without the streaming services now but a quick search on BC could not find me some mainstream music (tho plenty of “remixes” of that mainstream song.).

Is the only alternative pirating in that case?
(or what studios would like to define as pirating after you purchase from them…:-/ )

@awws @cks I honestly don't know.
@GeePawHill @cks Just Apple by the sounds of things. Hmmm…
Band camp of course, but does not have major artists.
@GeePawHill The difference between the music business, and the music business.
@GeePawHill the only sane choice in this insane world.
