Future linguists and archeologists are gonna go fucking crazy on this in 150 years
@konstruct Fertility ritual
@wakame @konstruct it's never specifically a *fertility* ritual. It's an "unknown ritual object", even when it is blatantly a dildo.

@DrHyde @konstruct

Reminded me of a visit to a smaller museum showing the most boring culture I could and can imagine.

"These little wooden status each have a large wing pointing forward..."

Hmm, looks a bit like a phallus.

"...which represents a phallus."

sigh

"Each year, there is a ritual where they dance around straw figures because their god also danced around straw figures that then turned into humans."

That's... a bit obvious.

"They believe that when they die, they will arrive in the land of the dead..."

Maybe finally some creativity? Hot, damp, maybe with talking animals?

"...which is believed to be in the east."

sigh

@konstruct

+1 for the r place reference.

@konstruct “We believe this was what the ancient civilisation ate, as can be seen by the prominent inscription ’NOM’”
@konstruct 150 years isn't really that much in linguistics terms. languages tend to stay fairly intelligible in that amount of time.
(I've been reading a lot of newspapers from 150 years ago exactly in the last few months)

@konstruct ALL HAIL the great god COUSB god of lightening and his acolytes Eukca & Ea[c
@konstruct It's always neat when the alt text does a better job conveying the horrors we're witnessing than the picture itself.
@konstruct They will believe they found another Rosetta Stone for some set of languages 😂
@konstruct the rosetta charger...
