Ghostery
@eWalthert @angrynerdspodcast @Vivaldi Oh! There is a Safari version as well, thanks!

@letterror So, trying to install Ghostery on my iPhone Mini I’ve got the error, that I’ll need 18.7 to install it.

That lead me do read up about the fact, that #Apple is blocking iOS 18 upgrades for phones that are able to run 26.
So, they pooped their pants with 26 and want to force it on everyone? No thanks, instead I deleted Safari with its known vulnerabilities.

@eWalthert Ghostery does have have business model where they sell user data of which trackers were blocked. At least for adblockers, UBlock Origin/UBlock Origin Lite is definitely the best one, set in Complete filtering mode. I’m unsure of extensions that block cookie notices (maybe UBlock origin has that option)
@amalie Thing is, it does not block cookie notices but automatically declines all cookies. You might see it flash up, and magically disappear without having to slide off the remaining toggles.
@eWalthert ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ?
@letterror It will drain my battery and push me to buy a new iPhone.
Friends upgraded and it completely overwhelmed their phones and decreased battery life.
Apple made several patches in iOS 18.7 that they don’t make accessible on purpose.
I don’t think, shrugging cuts it ;)
@eWalthert @letterror you have me thinking more and more about using a phone with just enough storage and replacing the battery instead of upgrading. I mean, I usually upgrade every 2-5 years. But battery is really important to me.
I wish I was still on iPhone 4S.
@Luke I did a battery replacement with my 7, but it still barely was holding an entire day. I blamed an OS that used more resources than necessary.
@Luke @eWalthert @letterror That sound so wasteful! 2–5 years. I still have a 4 for you if you want, even with an almost-new battery (replaced with ifixit instructions). The 5/5S/SE is my favourite. I still use them regularly, and a 12 mini (with the same upgrade conundrum as Edgar 🫠)
@kupfers @eWalthert @letterror our kids and oma are in the upgrade path, so when the youngest breaks a phone or can't update the OS, we all cycle it around. Also, I was frequently replacing screens and batteries up until a couple of years ago… Only failed maybe twice (that was expensive)?
Oh, yeah, that's true, the 5 and SE 1 are fantastic phones. Love the square edges.
That's very kind of you, Indra.
@kupfers @Luke I downloaded the 18.7.5 .ipsw now, not knowing if it would work or if I’m risking losing my data.
(Have backed-up everything but it is officially for the X and 11)
But I also read, that 18.7.5 has bugs and is breaks things. I’ll probably fly without Safari on 18.6.2 until there are more known risks.
