I made a (ugly) page showing the most downloaded apps from @fdroidorg servers: https://grote.gitlab.io/fdroid-metrics-distilled/
It exposes some JSON endpoints as well.

@grote

In my opinion, it's a beautiful page. Thank you very much for that.
I hope it will still be useful after September 2026.

@fdroidorg

@siklist Thanks! It should auto-update weekly.

@grote nice to see you having stats per category 🤗 – something that's still in the works at our end 😉 https://stats.izzyondroid.org/

Does the order of categories have some background (as it's not alphabetical)? Honest question, not a complaint 😉

Page Redirection

@IzzyOnDroid no, probably the order they were added to some list. This is just the fallout of research related to https://gitlab.com/fdroid/wiki/-/wikis/Featured-Apps and I just made it auto-publishing, so I can get the "most downloaded apps" for the 2.0 app.

@grote @fdroidorg why termux? Are bots running on termux?

@grote @fdroidorg did you consider taking into account the number of releases? I guess that the more updates an app will have, the more downloads it will get (users updating the app). Or is that already accounted for?
@mimi89999
Yes, you are right. This is just naive data distillation. Numbers aren't to be taken at face value. You'd also have to consider that most downloads happen through mirrors.

What is ugly.. So impressive!!
@grote @fdroidorg I like ugly fast things that work well! Great post/page - thanks 🙏

F-Droid being in 2nd place on F-Droid (by downloads)

@grote @fdroidorg Nice to see a visualization of the F-Droid data Could you add a bit of explanation about what the data is? As far as I understand, the data you are using is the download counts from f-droid.org. So that would include other client apps. "F-Droid Top Downloads" makes me think top downloads of fdroidclient, e.g. the official F-Droid client.

@grote @fdroidorg Thanks, had been looking to find this kind of page. And design is fine - everything does not have to look like a nightclub.
