I work in programmatic advertising. I built a tool that shows you how much the ad industry has spent targeting you personally.

No data collected. No cookies. GoatCounter for anonymous pageviews only, open source and cookieless.

The irony is intentional.

What's Your Attention Worth? | The Ad Spend Calculator

The advertising industry has spent thousands targeting you. Enter your age, location, and screen time to find out exactly how much. Built by an ad industry veteran.

@godlesssaint damn, $34K spent to reach me, too bad that I've been using browser and device-wide website blocking, including ads. I genuinely haven't seen an in-game or web advertisement on my phone in a few years at this point.

@godlesssaint
/me chuckles in been online since before pop-up ads were a thing.

Think it skews on early advertising, though. Giving me numbers for the early 90s when pretty much all advertising was still physical.

@Hakuso the tool adjusts ad density by era so it's not applying 2025 rates to the dial-up days. also added an option to set when you actually went online instead of assuming age 13.

@godlesssaint

Does the math really scale like this? Yes I've been online for 30 years but advertising wasn't as huge back in the early days, and there certainly weren't video ads back in the 90s.

@The4thCircle the tool does scale by era, early internet years are weighted at 10% of current ad density, 2000-2006 at 25%, 2007-2012 at 50%, and only 2013+ at 75-100%. so your 90s dial-up years aren't being counted at 2025 rates.

and worth noting here, the number shown is media cost only. that's just what advertisers pay to place the ad. agency fees, creative production, data broker costs, tech platform fees aren't included. total cost of targeting you is roughly 2x what the tool shows.

@godlesssaint

Wow. I'm that case I'm appalled! To think they spent more advertising to me than I have probably spent on those products in my whole life!
