I think the problem is kind of with "people taking his word as gospel". I don't. He's a very smart chap but obviously wrong in his rationalisation here, but I've got Ollama on my PC too, with deepseek etc running locally. My disdain for LLMs is more about the concentration of power and the fact the hype train is going to hit a brick wall because it can't deliver on the investment while these characters walk off into the sunset with vast riches and the economy causes banks to stop lending, affecting most in society as broad money availability contracts. But these smirking AI evangelists will be fine in the ruins as small companies fold due to the systemic issues with our monetary system.
And running Ollama locally is just akin to a poor parlour game to me. If he wants to use it, fine, just don't make up specious arguments to justify yourself.

@Nickiquote This is the progressive way these days. If someone says online that someone else said or did something they disagree with that someone else is dead to them and they must be canceled (without checking the facts first, checking facts is so 20th century).
Giflian@Nickiquote gonna have to disagree with you on that, as someone who has read a lot about AI and LLMs, and his blog posts, and the responses. It's not all knee-jerk reactions. (Note: my disagreement was based on a misread of what Nick said)

Still, when, from time to time, he, uh, goes off-piste a bit, let's say (I don't want to argue the toss over it), the people saying things like 'respectfully Cory, no, and here's why' get drowned out by disturbingly loud yells of what feels like crowds going "See! The bellend! I. Knew. It.", who have been biding their time, waiting for a moment. I don't think he's too bothered by now.

It doesn't really matter what he says, there is always some group of people who get pissed of at what he says and accusing him of being aligned with fascists, usually it's crypto-fascists. This time the crypto-fascists didn't start it, and they sure are loving it
