Trump banner at the Justice Department.
Mussolini banner at Fascist headquarters, Italy.
Hitler banner at Danzig.

What's the difference?

@petergleick
The primary difference between someone like Trump vs someone like Hitler or Mussolini is that Hitler and Mussolini actually had some redeeming qualities. Like the fact that Hitler was a war hero in WWI whereas Trump dodged the draft. Or the fact that Hitler was a talented painter and Mussolini was a talented violinist, whereas the only thing Trump is good at is conning people.
@Phracker2Art @petergleick let’s not spread fascist propaganda please
@enby_of_the_apocalypse @petergleick
It's not fascist propaganda to point out that Trump is in many ways even worse than other fascist leaders. I'm not saying Hitler and Mussolini were good, just that they were better than Trump.
@Phracker2Art @petergleick i wouldn’t call hitler a “talented painter” (there’s a reason art school rejected him), or a “war hero”, and especially the latter is also a framing that was spread A LOT by nazi propaganda. We don’t have to repeat that.
@enby_of_the_apocalypse @petergleick
My point with WWI is that Hitler at least was willing to serve his country in combat, instead of making up some excuse about "bone spurs", and then going on to compare himself sleeping around to being in combat. Also, the main reason Hitler was rejected from art school was because his paintings were deemed unrealistic as there were no people in them. When it came to technique, he was still a pro.

@petergleick @Phracker2Art i don’t think those situations should be compared, and i don’t think it’s a positive quality to have fought in a war. This is relevant because hitler having fought in WW1 was massively used in nazi propaganda, and because the whole glorification of war was a huge part of what made nazi ideology so popular. To call hitler a “war hero” is to participate in this kind of propaganda.

I think that his skills as an artist should not matter, and i don’t know the exact reason why he wasn’t accepted into art school, but from what i’ve seen his art is incredibly mediocre and boring. He has the technical skill to paint some mediocre postcards (which he did if i remember correctly), but i think his works lack artistic value.

@petergleick @Phracker2Art i think it’s important to stress that glorifying participation in war as “serving your country”, this kind of nationalistic militarism is the exact kind of thing that was one of the core ideological footholds that nazi ideology had in german society that the nazi regime was built upon
