Trump banner at the Justice Department.
Mussolini banner at Fascist headquarters, Italy.
Hitler banner at Danzig.

What's the difference?

@petergleick - two of them are dead. Neither by old age.

@bazcook @petergleick

These public propaganda portraits get defaced.

@petergleick

then: B&W vs. now: Color

@petergleick I'd wager a guess that that's not too hard to ignite.
@petergleick won't work. Trump has no power
@petergleick the Trump one is in colour
@luciedigitalni @petergleick interesting choice of colour, though: a blue portrait of an orange man.
@deborahh @petergleick in Australia, people with red hair are often ironically nicknamed Bluey
@luciedigitalni @petergleick what!? 😵‍💫
@deborahh Can confirm. And why do we call someone Blue? Because he's a ranger ( pronounced as for "banger").

@petergleick

The hilter one was made to a higher quality

Besides that, they all look the same

Hugz & xXx

@petergleick
The primary difference between someone like Trump vs someone like Hitler or Mussolini is that Hitler and Mussolini actually had some redeeming qualities. Like the fact that Hitler was a war hero in WWI whereas Trump dodged the draft. Or the fact that Hitler was a talented painter and Mussolini was a talented violinist, whereas the only thing Trump is good at is conning people.
@Phracker2Art @petergleick Hitler was a talented painter? Fact so far: The Republicans did not start a ww - yet.
@Phracker2Art @petergleick let’s not spread fascist propaganda please
@enby_of_the_apocalypse @petergleick
It's not fascist propaganda to point out that Trump is in many ways even worse than other fascist leaders. I'm not saying Hitler and Mussolini were good, just that they were better than Trump.
@Phracker2Art @petergleick i wouldn’t call hitler a “talented painter” (there’s a reason art school rejected him), or a “war hero”, and especially the latter is also a framing that was spread A LOT by nazi propaganda. We don’t have to repeat that.
@enby_of_the_apocalypse @petergleick
My point with WWI is that Hitler at least was willing to serve his country in combat, instead of making up some excuse about "bone spurs", and then going on to compare himself sleeping around to being in combat. Also, the main reason Hitler was rejected from art school was because his paintings were deemed unrealistic as there were no people in them. When it came to technique, he was still a pro.

@petergleick @Phracker2Art i don’t think those situations should be compared, and i don’t think it’s a positive quality to have fought in a war. This is relevant because hitler having fought in WW1 was massively used in nazi propaganda, and because the whole glorification of war was a huge part of what made nazi ideology so popular. To call hitler a “war hero” is to participate in this kind of propaganda.

I think that his skills as an artist should not matter, and i don’t know the exact reason why he wasn’t accepted into art school, but from what i’ve seen his art is incredibly mediocre and boring. He has the technical skill to paint some mediocre postcards (which he did if i remember correctly), but i think his works lack artistic value.

@petergleick @Phracker2Art i think it’s important to stress that glorifying participation in war as “serving your country”, this kind of nationalistic militarism is the exact kind of thing that was one of the core ideological footholds that nazi ideology had in german society that the nazi regime was built upon
@petergleick Hitler was less of a narcissist than [redacted] or Mussolini?
Or this guy:

@petergleick

The other two weren't as dumb and mentally challenged as the orange TACO (even if they were, of course, madmen)?

@petergleick

Chump's is longer...

🤮

FFS...

Just typing that phrase sickens me though I'm only referencing a piece of cloth...

🤮

🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️🫏🫏🤡🤡💩💩🖕🖕

@petergleick i stopped watching Man in the High Castle because the idea of fascism in power in the USA was too depressing...
@petergleick The Trump banner is the ugliest. Is that the right answer?
@petergleick frankly, whilst Hitler and the Duce were portrayed as visionary looking in the future, Trump is looking intimidating down at the peons. Notable difference....

@petergleick

Putting "make America safe again" under the picture of a notorious pedophile makes it look like a wanted poster

@petergleick #uspol I hope this is fake. It's hard to believe some of the things that are happening in USA at the moment. 😱
Large Trump banner hung at US Department of Justice headquarters

‘Make America Safe Again’ banner put up in striking symbol of president’s control over top US law-enforcement agency

The Guardian
@petergleick Trump looks like a child who just had his ice cream cone stolen in this photo.

@petergleick

All that is missing is the mustache.

And every month or so, I am motivated to rewatch V for Vandetta

@petergleick Hitler didn't use his portrait in the same way. Try Chairman Mao or Kim Jong Un.
@petergleick Trump's picture looks more like a dystopian sci-fi film.
@petergleick The Nazi hall of fame.
@petergleick Trump's banner is from his booking photo.
@petergleick 2 of these are older than the other.
@petergleick I can’t believe this has been up for 5 hours and no one has commented that Trump’s is the smallest. I guess that fedi not showing all replies thing has struck again
@petergleick were Hitler and Mussolini also half-witted puppets?
@petergleick Well, in this one case, Mussolini's portrait is on his party's headquarters, not the (officially nonpartisan) Ministry of Justice.
@petergleick The modern picture is in colors.
@petergleick one of these is the least original of the three, done with full knowledge of the career/life arc of the other two, yet was still done un-ironically.
