I've lost yet another evening and yet another morning to being sad and angry about AI. I'm weird, I don't block people unless they're super mean, and don't have any filtered words. Well, didn't have, until just now. I wonder if I can just ignore the dumpster fire somehow.

It feels irresponsible though, kind of like filtering out all the news about climate change or local politics. But I don't want this stupid thing be the thing that wrecks my mental health, and so this is probably the right thing to do.

@nina_kali_nina Oh gosh, right? You're gonna feel better after this, even if you'll be missing some things.
@nina_kali_nina honestly, if I could afford to do that at work, I would have done it a long time ago 😆
@nina_kali_nina you and your sanity are far more important that the Internet
@nina_kali_nina you are more than your filter list. Look after yourself.
@nina_kali_nina There's a bunch of other terms I'd suggest to add to the list, but if I manage to hit some word you already have there you'd never see it, soooo...
@nina_kali_nina
such as
a g e n t i c
c l a w d b o t
o p e n c l a w
@sol_hsa I didn't block things in notifications because I don't want to be oblivious of discussions relevant to me :) only the feed

@nina_kali_nina I had the exact same issue a few months ago !

...But I ultimately had to let go of the "ai" filter because, in french, it's a very common word that pop in most sentence (it's like if "ai" was the "had" word).

@otyugh aah~ without 愛 many posts can't be seen :(
@nina_kali_nina fwiw I think when it comes to these things you shouldn't be afraid of "alienating yourself", it's such a big topic that you'll know enough without having to be hammered by it all the time.
@nina_kali_nina Take care! I still have the bandwidth (and anger) too see those things for now but I’ll mute them as well if needed.
@nina_kali_nina part of being on the fedi is curating your experience. There's no algorithm, YOU decide what you want to see. That includes deciding who to follow, who can boost into your feed, and setting up filters. You don't have an obligation to read everything people post, and we know by now how harmful a constant feed of distressing content is to people's mental health. It's also not a good way to be informed. Look after yourself, keep fedi a fun place to be, and that will create the space for you to be informed more meaningfully.
@nina_kali_nina It's been keeping me awake too. Hope the filter helps you!
@nina_kali_nina it's ok, people who use the correct nomenclature for bullshit machines will reach you without issues
@nina_kali_nina hmm, does this block all toots where the letter 'i' comes after 'a', even in the middle of unrelated words?
@voxel no, because there's a checkbox "whole word"

@nina_kali_nina seems reasonable to me.

I've blocked some political terms, myself. It's not that I want to be oblivious, it's just that I don't want to see those topics here specially. This is where I come to read about things I enjoy.

@nina_kali_nina filters are imperfect. Your mental health is worth a lot more than missing something. I struggle with unfollowing and filtering and probably balance towards unhealthy. 🙁
I’ve heard of not consuming news to be called an “information diet”. One argument is that anything important will find its way to you through other sources.
I’ve wondered for decades about an information client that could rank content I want to see based on a transparent & rash to change algorithm.
@nina_kali_nina separate lists and only viewing some things by search are the best I’ve found, but haven’t done. I also see things that detect emotional charge and wonder about adding those to clients.
This same issue applied to newsgroups, FidoNet, and news feeds (rss and another tool I had that predated rss), but it’s worse on today’s social media. The emotionally charged stuff even leaks onto here. ☹️

@nina_kali_nina
It's sad that the human "Clxxdes" of the world are now suffering the same fate as the Alexa's…

These things shouldn't be allowed human names.
"Multivac" or "Mxyzptlk".

@RealGene 100%. I'm worried about missing any news about Monet now
@nina_kali_nina If you don't pick your fights, you'll just spend all your time fighting, which isn't good for anyone.
@nina_kali_nina You don't owe it to anyone to read their posts, and it's 100% valid to filter something out because it's infuriating, stupid, tiresome, or anything else that makes you not want to read it. Enjoy your new, less-annoying timeline!
@nina_kali_nina taking care of your mental health is always okay
