Here's some GREAT news: the first kākāpō chick in four years hatched on Valentine's Day! Kākāpō are nocturnal, flightless parrots that are endemic to New Zealand and are critically endangered. Only 236 adult kākāpō are alive today, so every chick is a milestone for the species!

@paulaborchardt

We all need news like this thank you sooo very much 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Be well, little kākāpō!

@paulaborchardt I’ve known about Kakapos since I read Douglas Adams „Last Chance to see“ in the early nineties. I love those green puffy fellas walking in the woods. Great news. 💚

@Doerpstroot @paulaborchardt

I was just going to add a similar comment.

If folks haven't read Douglas Adams' "Last Chance to See" I highly recommend.

@MsMerope @Doerpstroot @paulaborchardt Better, listen to him reading it on tour! I gotta tape/recording somewhere from the 00s or so. TPB should provide.
@paulaborchardt
If only Douglas Adams could have seen this!
Happy nevertheless!
@messieass @paulaborchardt he missed his Last chance to see ....
@otte_homan @paulaborchardt
Didn't he meet Kakapos, specifically one named Ralph?
@otte_homan @paulaborchardt
Or was Ralph the Kakapo tracker and Arab the Kakapo biting Douglas' finger for comfort?
I don't have the book within reach right now.
@paulaborchardt Oh wow. With numbers this small, every chick feels like a miracle. Thank you to the people making this possible. 💚
