RE: https://floss.social/@GIMP/116074918261285003

Lovely to see my #JWST image of The Dragon Jet featured as the latest #GIMP 3.2 release candidate (RC3) splash screen.

Question is, with my Orion Nebula long-wavelength & short-wavelength images used for RC1 & RC2, respectively, which one is going to end up used for the official 3.2 release?

There are rumours of a vote being held – which one would you prefer? 🙂

(Thanks again to Jehan & his development team for the honour 🙇‍♂️)

@markmccaughrean I had already spotted it in the wild (on my computer)!
@markmccaughrean "my Orion Nebula long-wavelength & short-wavelength images" cant find an Orion mention without leaving here; can you post links? thx - most definitely would like to have something more durable for a splash than the current stable GIMP 3.x has!

@CmykStudent @wavesculptor And similarly for RC2, here’s the short-wavelength image of the Orion Nebula. Both were taken with the NIRCam instrument on JWST, but over different wavelength ranges, so showing complementary scientific insights.

The original full-scale SW image is 21K pixels wide, so full of detail – the images used for the RC splash screens have all necessarily been scaled down.
