In incredible news, the European Parliament has voted overwhelmingly for "The Full Recognition Of Trans Women As Women." Even the center-right European People's Party voted for the declaration. It will form a foundation for their position at the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Our latest.

European Parliament Votes Overwhelmingly For "The Full Recognition Of Trans Women As Women"

The resolution, though nonbinding, is a significant shot at those who seek to erode transgender rights on the continent.

That feel when you wake up and see that the Democrats are literally just a right wing party by European contexts.

@Moondancer @erininthemorning.com That has been happening for a while, I think Obama would've fit wonderfully into one of the european conservative parties. The overton window is through the frickin roof at this point.

@Moondancer @erininthemorning.com Democrats vs Republicans feels like United Russia vs LDPR at this point

(United Russia is the governing party (and is center-right sorta), LDPR is a "liberal-democratic" party which is actually ultra-right)

@erininthemorning.com

wonderful!! and as it should be.

@erininthemorning.com Truly wonderful news! I can only imagine Joane will start pushing for a second, even harder Brexit.

@erininthemorning.com Nothing about Trans men being recognised as Men ?

(Transwomen clearly bear the brunt of transphobia, sure, but transmasc are overlooked so often if I understand correctly — cishet man here)

@Sobex @erininthemorning.com mate, I'm also cishet, and it's time for us to recognise that this is not our time to butt in.

Besides, that's something you could easily find by reading the document.

@erininthemorning.com It's only the EU parliament not member countries but it's still good news.
@erininthemorning.com Feeling so happy for this news, but so sad that so many people were led to believe that the UK would be better out of Europe. And without any relatives from EU countries, it is so much harder to regain citizenship to an EU country.
Politicians should be held to account for all their political actions!
@erininthemorning.com next time is to provide a definition for women. So we can test its consistency.
@erininthemorning.com in your face J K Rancid
@erininthemorning.com and exactly as happened in the Scottish parliament.
But trampled on by London.

A. This is amazing and a win for everyone (even those who don't realize that fact). I hope the people who drafted the resolution and pushed for this get recognition.

B. From my trauma-based American Liberal perspective I am hoping this does not become a sop thrown to the people wanting a better society so they don't notice all the other things not being done. I don't mean to reduce the enormity and importance of this development in any way; it is tremendous. I'm just remembering that, here in the US, we have had nominally "liberal" politicians say or do positive things related to social justice while they go the opposite direction with things that might impact the profit margins of big corporations, for example.

But that is maybe-future. Right now the EU is showing us what can and should be done, and it is great.
