Discord attempt to put out the fires with a clarification over new age verification

Discord have released some clarifications around the new forced age verification system coming worldwide next month, as people look to flee the platform.

@gamingonlinux

Discord spouting a whole lotta words for what basically is a "trust me, bro".

@gamingonlinux too little too late, fuck them
@gamingonlinux They're not going to have to verify my age when they see I use text emotes instead of emoji and punctuate every sentence with lol
@gamingonlinux Note they're using the meaningless term "privacy-forward" instead of "private"
@gamingonlinux
It's all about trust, and to go with this just 4 months after they had a huge verification documents data leak in the UK is downright stupid, who the fuck is gonna trust them?
I'm still wondering because i only use Discord through the desktop browser (no way I'm gonna put that chat on the phone! I use it way too much already! 😅), will they block me because they have no way to do that over the browser? Who knows!
@gamingonlinux Very annoying. I want to like Matrix, but the user experience is a challenge. Tried Element yet?

@gamingonlinux @RobLoach

Tried it. Element and Matrix is a radioactive bio-contaminated tire fire.

That whole implementation is fucked beyond belief, ranging from CSAM spewing campaigns, nonexistent moderation tools, banned users half-joined and impossible to remove, server infra that gobbles resources for very little output, utterly nonsensical end user interfaces.

@gamingonlinux

I'm going to make a push for Matrix. Element client probably being the best, though there are others which may seem simpler (less featureful).

I know it's not perfect but it's close and could get better with more userbase.

@gamingonlinux don't worry, Discord is only going to zap your account if you use language like "skibidi" or "67"
