Often after I update #fedora it boots into a black screen with a mouse cursor only. No log in, and the terminal summoning keyboard shortcuts do nothing (mashing CRTL/AlT/SHIFT combinations and pressing t).

Sometimes powering off (long hold power button) fixes it, but generally not. When it occurs I don't get POST prior so can't select the old boot. It is like the system is resuming. But there is no fanspin between boots. When this happens I have to unplug to power cycle.

X570 motherboard, secureboot is on, Nvidea 4000 series GPU, with their drivers. No iGPU. I occasionally connect a second monitor via DP, but mostly 1 monitor via DP.

Has anyone else encountered this? It has been happening for months.

@noodle I had something similar happen to me occasionally on #bazzite. I never found a root cause; a re-image for unrelated reasons seems to have fixed it?
@emerssso I've stopped automatic updates and that seems to have fixed it. If spare brain time happens I'll start hunting the cause installing updates individually.
@noodle Update if you ever find the root cause! I had it happen once again recently. :/
@emerssso I have manually updated individually with shut downs between and not reproduced it. The only variable I have not tested is monitor connections. Do you (and have you) used multiple monitors? On reflection I have 2 monitors connected, but the problem only occurs when I have a single monitor connected.
@noodle hm, I only ever use a single monitor.
