Tonight I introduced a schedule in my OpnSENSE firewall, attached a blocking rule to it and added the mac addresses of some minor living in my house.

This will make sure said minor will have access to the Internet at some times and no access to the Internet at other times. Most notably no access during the late evening and night.

When I was all in the Apple ecosystem, I just used screentime settings and accepted that the system was not effective on things like a gaming console.

But this seems like a pretty nice way to prevent accidents (although the phone also has cellular, don't tell anyone)

Yeah and there is more! OPNsense has an API which I use to enable or disable specific FW rules via a python script and MQTT - so I can lock out just Netflix, Minecraft or Youtube from the Kid's vLan with a flick of a finger on my mobile.
You won't believe how much more on time they appear for dinner with a bit of motivation. πŸ˜‰

@opentechfan
I do the same by switching Policies of #ZenArmor on the #opnsense .
Can also be done via MQTT,btw.

For shits and giggles a friend and I once linked it to #homeassistant for a "no non-educational internet till you took the trash out" automation.

Hehehehehr
