"How about I kidnap the dragon," the knight said, "and you come to rescue them?"

"It's still the same story," the princess said.

"No! We're all subverting-"

"I am tired of being in stories," the dragon said.

"What?"

"If you're not in a story, what even are you?"

"I'd like to find out."

@MicroSFF “If you’re not in a story, what even are you?” - needs to be on a t-shirt

@MicroSFF You can have kidnap and blood, or rescue and blood, or kidnap, rescue and blood -- consecutively or concurrently -- but you can't have kidnap and rescue without the blood. The blood is mandatory.

(With apologies to both you and Tom Stoppard).

@MicroSFF Obviously, the dragon isn't going to find out here.
@MicroSFF oh my gosh, I like this story so much <3 Thank you for sharing.
@MicroSFF And then the dragon went and discovered penicillin.
@MicroSFF "You're saving a dragon ... from a woman ... isn't usually the contrary?" Quote from Spellforce 2

@MicroSFF
"While we're discussing this, let's all go out for pizza and beer."

"I'm in."

"No anchovies and you've got a deal."

And they did.

@MicroSFF poor dragon, it's still in a story
@MicroSFF Hmm, aren't we all in a story though? People often view their lives like a story (or well, it's probably more the other way around, I'd guess stories are structured similarly to how we structure our memories)

@MicroSFF they all turn and break the fourth wall, by staring out of the screen.

“Can we have some privacy please?”

@MicroSFF
“In fairy tales, the king is the king. If he dethrones, his bones clatter into a heap and vanish. Loosen the seams of the stepmother, and reach in. Nothing but stepmother inside. Even when the princess is cinders and ash, she is still entirely princess. […] In fairy tales, form is your function and function is your form. If you don’t spin the straw into gold or inherit the kingdom or devour all the oxen […], you drop out of the fairy tale, and fall over its edge into an endless, blank forest where there is no other function for you, no alternative career.”

by Sabrina Orah Mark (which beautifully leans on fairy tale analysis to explore the harsh aftermath of giving up on an academic career).

@MicroSFF They found out that "forgotten" was the answer.
