"I think pluralism is one of the most beautiful parts of the American Jewish experience. I also think it invites the following question: If there are many different understandings and versions of what it means to be Jewish in the United States, what do we do when some Jews’ understandings of Jewishness negate others’ Jewish identities?"
The valuable question Emily Tamkin is asking is, in pluralistic religious traditions, does anything count as the "real" tradition, the core of the tradition, and if so, how can adherents find agreement about that core?

"This has become the foundational base of white Christianity, of white Christian nationalism. ... White Christians are alone in the belief that there should simply be fewer non-white people in America, that the non-white population must be reduced to as low as possible so that white Christians prevail."

Note the following interesting breakdowns in Pew Research Center's latest findings about Trump's approval rating, as broken down by religious groupings:
Pew finds that net approval of Trump among US Catholics is 39% and net disapproval 60%.
But break those figures down among white Catholics and Hispanic ones, and an interesting picture emerges:

White Catholics: 52% net approval, 47% net disapproval
Hispanic Catholics: 23% net approval, 76% net disapproval
Besides white Catholics, the only other religious demographic with a positive approval rating for Trump are white evangelical Protestants, with a 69% net approval rating and a 29% net disapproval rating.
There's a huge gap between white Catholics and non-white ones when it comes to how Trump is rated.
