I’ve been experiencing repeating issues in #HomeAssistant with devices not responding. It’s been manifesting in the system log as an error:

cp210x ttyUSB0: failed set request 0x12 status: -110

That’s Zigbee dongle. The workaround was to reboot the system, but I’ve changed it’s USB port and it seems to be gone.

The system is #RaspbianOS on #Raspberry Pi5. Pi is powered via PoE and it should have sufficient power budget, though it’s running of an nvme.2 and with USB hard drive, so who knows…

@ssamulczyk I had to move my Conbee II stick to a powered USB-hub to make it stable on the Pi4...

@fhekland Yeah… My issue came back, though restarting HA was enough to fix it.

I’m now trying and old unpowered 2.0 USB hub I had laying around… We will see…

@ssamulczyk Ahh, sucks. Unless you can switch to the original power supply, perhaps you can tweak the power negotiation via config.txt?

@fhekland Yeah, I’m doing this as well, because without it I had issues with external USB drive…🤷🏻‍♂️

It should have plenty of power. Also, it’s running Pimoroni M.2 NVMe base with SSD and USB external hard drive… I’d assume there would be more issues and more often than this…

If that hub doesn’t help, then I’m going to run it through a powered one… Maybe then stock PS.

People have the same issue on standard PCs, though, so I don’t know…

@ssamulczyk Sounds like you're running your little Pi pretty hard 😅
NVMe and HDD can be pretty spiky in their current draw, and when you're at the limit, the USB 5V rail will eventually droop and devices start to brown-out.

Sounds like you soon have to get a powered hub (and a beautiful box to put everything in to make the WAF high enough 😉)

@fhekland My Waifu (🫣) is allergic to fan noise and humming, so it’s already hidden in a TV cabinet in a 1U enclosure along with 1U router…🤡 I guess I can squeeze a powered hub inside if I must…

I agree it might be a lot, running Pi 5 like that, BUT it’s mostly doing nothing. Once every now and then we watch something on Jellyfin, but mostly that USB drive is not being accessed. I cannot correlate the dongle issue with any heavy use on the system…
