Friends, I’m curious…
If you’re reading a book (recreationally), what is it? Here’s what I’m enjoying at present…
@qrper I tell people its like Friends crossed with Seinfeld but lgbtq positive in space. I enjoyed the read and all the other books. Not your typical sci-fi but refreshing and fun.

@qrper @czarbucks I loved that book! Be sure to read the next one, "A Closed and Common Orbit" it was my favorite of the series.

Right now I'm reading "The Blues Brothers: An Epic Friendship, the Rise of Improv, and the Making of an American Classic" by Daniel De Vise. It’s great. Highly recommended if you're a fan of Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, the movie, or early SNL.

The Blues Brothers by Daniel de Visé

"They're not going to catch us," Dan Aykroyd, as Elwood Blues, tells his brother Jake, played by ...

@aburtch @qrper

I missed the first one, came into the series late, still need to circle back around.

Dipping back into a mystery series with Elizabeth George's "A Banquet of Consequences." Haven't read her in a decade, giving them another try.

@czarbucks @aburtch I will have to look this one up. I'm all about "whodunnits" :)

@qrper @aburtch

I've also been re-re-reading the Murderbot Diaries, the Slow Horses series, mysteries by Malla Nunn (South African).

Elizabeth George's series is decades long, if you find you like them. Louise Penny also has an excellent series, set mostly in Quebec.

Hope you get other recommendations!

@czarbucks @aburtch I LOVE the Murderbot series! Been savoring the final two books just to stretch it out longer.
Maybe should simply re-read! :)

@qrper @aburtch

It's become something of a refuge for me these days (and I own all the audio books as well, for when that's just easier.) Totally great.

There are at least 4 short stories out there as well, if you finish and are desperate. PLUS, she will release "Platform Decay" in May!

@czarbucks @aburtch Ditto. Books are a very welcome refuge these days. We're lucky here in the AVL area to have great independent bookstores, too!
@qrper @czarbucks you’re in Asheville? That’s cool. I’m in Durham.
@aburtch @czarbucks Yes--Swannanoa, actually. I'm in the RDU area a fair amount these days, too.
@qrper @czarbucks Nice! That’s a great area. I hope you’re recovering from the flooding. The Swannanoa photos looked bad.
@aburtch @czarbucks We are getting back on our feet, but it's a long row to hoe.
@czarbucks @qrper I know it doesn’t count, but I watched the first two seasons of Slow Horses and enjoyed them.
@aburtch @czarbucks Noted, noted, and noted! And, yes--huge fan. :)
@qrper I’m halfway through The Power Broker by Robert Caro.
@IU1KGS WOW! Congratulations, Carlos. That's a fascinating work and you've already made it through more of that book than most who start it!
@qrper I’m fuelled by anger, Caro knows how to fire a reader up with indignation.
@IU1KGS @qrper now I’m reading “Guns, Germs, and Steel”. An eye opening read
@qrper That book is in my extensive pile of books waiting to be read. Currently reading "Periodic Tales", an account of the history of the elements of the periodic table.
@2E0ECN I do love that title of that book!
@qrper Is that about someone coming to Earth?

@cgo Based on the title alone? Yeah. One would think that, Christian. 😞

I must say that it's a brilliant read and one that celebrates diversity (among many other themes).

@qrper > Book?

Loved that one - You'll love these (Cloud Lib or Hoopla):

Shroud, Adrian Tchaikovsky
Set My Heart To Five, Simon Stephenson
Stupid Machine, Mark Nieman-Ross

@cyclical_obsessive Thank you for the suggestions!
@qrper Thick Witch Summer by Lizzy Ives. I got it via kickstarter. Author’s webpage is https://www.lizzyiveswrites.com/
@becomingwisest I just finished Legends and Lattes, so this sounds like a similar vibe.
@qrper I’ve seen that, and may have a sample on my kindle. Mine is body positive YA, so a good pick for me to relax to.
@qrper
I just started reading the book in French, thank you for this discovery. I really like it. 🙂
@qrper I've read all four books. It's a really great series.
I'm continuing with another short series of monk and robot stories by the same author. Awesome!
