All right, I'll play along with the #FiberuaryChallenge. For day 1, "Hello, it's me", I teach data visualization with textiles at Stanford as part of my digital humanities job. Can often be found posting to #DHmakes. I do a little of almost all fiber things except cross-stitch. I hate that one. 😅
Realizing I should probably thread these to keep it all together. So here was day 2.

#FiberuaryChallenge Day 3: Mood. Honestly, things have been pretty rough lately. Working on this weaving reminds me there were good times once & maybe again someday. The blue thread is Sunday August 2, a day I spent with my girlfriend and her kids. We exchanged two messages, both pictures. #DHmakes
Was hoping to have embroidery progress to share for #FiberuaryChallenge Day 3: Work in Progress, but I got on a roll with my second anniversary weaving and got through a month and a half of daily text chat log data. Not many photos exchanged in August-September 2025, makes it go faster! #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 5 (belatedly): Outside. It's been a real long time since I've done any spinning. I used to bring my little EEW Nano everywhere with me. I think it was good for us both to take a trip to the beach together last weekend during the Superbowl. #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 6 (belatedly): Tag a Black Maker. They're not on here, but Akasha Hayden was my right-hand person at the Textile Makerspace & I seriously miss them. They built the first AYAB shield for the digital knitting machine and got that running, along with the floor loom. #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 7 (belatedly): Self-Care. When the therapist asked in a family meeting what support I have these days for dealing with extreme stress, I mentioned friends who live far away, and the fact that I make things. That's how I've always coped with hard times. I make things. #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 8 (belatedly): Reading or Watching. Idk, both? I'm just finishing up the wonderful @[email protected] Full Bloom audiobook with the tween, just started and loving @[email protected] Deal with the Devil & watching Starfleet Academy (so good) w/ my girlfriend. #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 9 (belatedly): Motivation. Honestly, this prompt doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Making things is a compulsion, especially when I'm having a hard time. I can't not do it. #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 10 (belatedly): I have no idea if I'm going to love or hate the texture of these loops on my current weaving project. 😬 #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 11 (belatedly): Wear it Wednesday. I make most of my clothes myself (though I've been building up a stash of fun t-shirts), so that's pretty much every day. Here's a recent outfit from a day I was teaching weaving for a medieval class. #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 12 (belatedly): Favorite Place. I'll make things anywhere. Love carrying my tiny e-spinner with me. Get antsy without a project in my bag. But my favorite place is the classroom at Lacis Museum of Lace & Textiles because when I'm there, I can block out the world. #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 13 (belatedly): Fiber Friends. Maybe the best part of running Textile Makerspace / YarnLab is that people who are into the same crafts show up in those spaces and get excited that such places exist, and I get to make new friends. 😁 #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 14 (belatedly): Love. In spring 2024, I turned the first 3.5 days of chat log with my girlfriend into two scarves (same data, different colors), and now I'm finishing our two-year anniversary scarf. Textiles and data and love get all tangled up with me. #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 15 (belatedly): Cozy. With only a couple exceptions, even textile data visualizations I make are made to be worn and used. My scarf visualizing the first 3.5 days of chat log with my girlfriend hangs by the door and I'll grab it for almost any outing. #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 16: Matching. My mother was extremely anxious about clothes matching, to the point of it being a mental health issue. Making my own clothes has taught me that confidence matters more than matching as such. My style has been described as "power clashing" & I love it. #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 17: Project bag. Let's be honest, all my project bags are full of shattered dreams. This is the bag for knitting a blanket for the second-grader. I can't count, the thing is a mess and getting frogged. I also failed at a Pride cardigan I loved recently. #DHmakes #DHtries
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 18: Wear it Wednesday. It's cloudy and gray again today, but this is as close to gray as my wardrobe will take me. Fox shirt and Unicode archive pants (with giant pockets), shawl from summer 2023 road trip. All made by me + jewelry from @[email protected] #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 19: Color Crush. I dunno, man, I just like most colors and I like wearing all of them together. #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 20: Finished it. Why we gotta do this today? I'm 3 days from finishing my dataviz weaving but not quite there. 😅 So I'm doing the opposite thing and starting my first crochet project in a long while, a blanket for the second-grader. #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge 21: Sip and Stitch. Coffee. 🐙 ☕ #DHmakes
#FiberuaryChallenge Day 22: Giving Back. The textile piece of my work feels more like paying forward. Trying to teach people enough to be able to debug things themselves. Running spaces where they can meet other people who make things. Hoping some of it will remain part of their lives. #DHmakes
