From the department of "we all approach craft differently", I literally never noticed that the circular knitting machine has numbers on the red part so when I replaced a needle, I put it back in some random way, totally confusing someone who is used to looking at the numbers for stitches. #DHmakes
Ran a little craft night at YarnLab last night, getting to know my new punch card bulky knitting machine with help from @[email protected]. Not too shabby! #DHmakes

#2 is informal, friendly show+tell (no slides). Thanks to co-convenors @[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected]!

Don't forget we've also got a second #DHmakes event for all #ACH2026 attendees on Thursday during the Special Interest Groups slot (including sharing the mail art collab)
#ACH2026 attendees who do craft/art/making, we have 2 opportunities for you! 1: Share an image of something you've made (art/craft/maker), for a digitally stitched "picnic blanket" and/or 2: Sign up to briefly share 1 thing you're making/made (art/craft/maker) @ Wed #DHmakes Show+Tell session: +

#DHmakes Show-and-Tell Picnic ...
#DHmakes Show-and-Tell Picnic Signup

This is only for registered ACH 2026 attendees. It's the Wednesday 6/24 "#DHmakes Show-and-Tell Picnic" session at 5:30pm-6:45pm ET // 4:30pm-5:45pm CDT //2:30pm-3:45pm PT (program here). You can do one *or* both options! You can do Option B even if you can't make the session. OPTION A = Informal Craft Share: Participants will have 2 minutes to share something they’re making, or have recently made (easiest to *not* have slides; you can share links in the zoom chat and/or hold things up to the camera). OPTION B = To accommodate all (including people who are unable to attend during the synchronous time slot), we invite all conference participants to submit a 6" square image of something they’ve made, along with a few sentences describing it. Organizers will compile these into a single “picnic blanket” image and publish it online along with the statements, and make a high-resolution version available for participants to print (e.g. as a poster, t-shirt, or basis for further craft work) as they would like. You do not need to make it to the session to submit. Session plan: 1. ~30 minutes: up to 15 of the "Option A" 2-minute presentations 2. ~30 minutes: “co-making” time, where participants are invited to work on (some aspect of) their craft at the same time, leaving space for spontaneous conversation Don't forget there's a second #DHmakes session all ACH conference attendees are invited to join, on Thursday 6/25 (see "Special Interest Groups" session listing multiple SIG names; #DHmakes is at the end of the line). We'll be sharing the mail art packet projects a bunch of DHers contributed, and discussing what the SIG might do. This form is linked at https://tinyurl.com/dhmakes-achpicnic.

I've taken my Awful Cursed Drawing practice to a new level of Terrifying by incorporating imagination. Like turning Bonus Kid on the couch into a literal potato. #DHmakes #DHtries
I'd been practicing basic tatted chains for the last month and finally took a workshop. Learned some things but honestly, did almost as much un-tatting as tatting, ended up with a mess, and burned out my patience for the day. Lovely examples to aspire to another day, though. #DHmakes #DHtries
Test prints to assess graph paper, of a quote from @[email protected]'s #ACH2025 talk. Lighter pressure & ink shows character of well-used wood type better (left); slightly more pressure & ink covers that up for more-solid letters (right). #DHmakes
Pt 3: Prints for the good #DHmakes community, including folks who shared craft on Int'l Print Day, letterpress on fabric, celebrating the fine art of the humble potato print (@[email protected] knows), & feelings about craft's place in digital humanities for our conference's mail art pack:
