Question for USians: What’s the best free online service for tax filing these days? Last year I went with FreeTaxUSA, but they’ve added AI. Or are they all adding AI . . . ? All I have are a W2 and a 1099.

EDIT: Turns out it’s possible from the IRS website, a section called FreeFillableForms! For state (if applicable) there’s a similar option—at least in some states, maybe in all that require state filling. Thanks to everyone who helped!

@superball

I've always just done FreeFillableForms? It's linked right from irs.gov and it's easy and straightforward.

@superball it's all so bad 😭😭😭 I'll be perusing these replies because I need to know (if I file taxes)
@superball @harris do you know about tax filing in these confusing times?
@superball @artcollisions I was planning to still use freetaxusa but I didn’t know about the AI addition, ugh.
@superball We use a free service offered through United Way of King County, I think the joint income limit is 70 Gs, you load pics of your w2s, 1099s etc to a secure site, answer a bunch of questions on
line and then a volunteer tax preparer calls and goes thru it all, asks questions and then files for you on line. So check your local United Way organization. 🙂

@superball yeah wish the “as assessed to you” part of the #constitution was on as many bumper stickers as “shall not be infringed” The tax filing industry is a grift enabled by congress. How can they grade your math homework if they don’t know the answers already?
