Guys [gn], I have come up with a glorious idea for an open source, crowdsourced, anarchist post/mail [social] network and please can someone make it?

Thank you. <3

== The Elevator Pitch ==

Nodes store post safely. Delivery volunteers pick up post from nodes and drop it off at other nodes when they're heading that way. Your post very slowly makes it to its destination via nerds going to work, going on holiday, etc. It's slow, weird, and free.

It's in the same online category as #Bookcrossing and #Geocaching.

@cassolotl You have reinvented uucp, amirite?

@cstross Maybe! ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ‘‰

*does not have enough technical expertise to know what uucp is*

@cassolotl @[email protected] yeah... Basically a Sneakernet that only needs some nice, easy to use tooling to automate it

  • Personally, I'd consider installing #DataMule-like packs onto vehicles like Buses that get solar-powered and send their packages off via WiFi / IrDA-VFIR / LiFi / RONJA once they get ping'd or reach certain locations.

@[email protected] so basically a #Sneakernet system where everyone just has messages and files fully encrypted and they get manually transported point-to-point in a decentralized mesh topology? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sneakernet Makes sense... This is basically how #Journalists get footage from #NorthKorea and how reporters do get footage out if places like that and #Iranโ€ฆ
