@royaards love it!
edit: the art, not the situation :P

That's OK. Just don't give them any money.
@sinandlerd @LevZadov @anneviv @royaards There is always some sort of "So if you are using XY, you're still somewhat relying on big techs work." Even if you got only opensource Software, there's still Hardware ...)
But please, let people take one step at a time! It's a process, not a sprint.
@sinandlerd @LevZadov @anneviv @royaards you're right, it is just important to focus on the way of thinking, not in a specific product. I just think, that people need at least something to hold in to. If the direct answer to "chromium is Vetter than chrome" is "chrome is Bad, too", it gets hard for people are just starting their journey.
Sadly, big tech is nearly everywhere π€·
@sinandlerd
Ah by that standard nearly all the world is using Linux phones.
Vivaldi uses the oss base of Chrome.
Personally I think people are still missing the point, there is a reason why the browser market is as restricted as it is: DRM.
In practice Microsoft, Apple & Google effectively control who is allowed to publish a mass market compatible browser, by granting or not a DRM module licence (they just need to delay it).
@anneviv @royaards
@sinandlerd @anneviv @royaards Ah, but that's the point; Google only owns Chromium up to a point.
In the end it's a question of how the US trade envoy will be able to enforce the US idea of "fair trade" aka US tech monopoly, or the EU will manage to enforce their digital tech laws. In that the next couple of years will be interesting, as in the Chinese curse.
Note that how Google manages Chrome is already not DSA/DMA compliant, e.g. the whole enterprise addon ecosystem.
@yacc143 @anneviv @royaards If google stops working on chromium there's no one who will have the ability to compensate for that. It's a matter of manpower and also money. By the way, Vivaldi is also relying on ads and user data.
I hope for the EU as well. But I don't think we have so much time left for the EU to find their courage to stand up for our values.
@royaards
we start to have some alternatives, just little bit will power and psychology to start to using them.
https://european-alternatives.eu/alternatives-to
but i'm little annoyed that there is no easy alternative to smartphone duopoly, in this case android and ios. we need to remove google account and aplpe id in our systems and devices.
