I think that whoever put “sleeping,” “socializing” and “spending time with family” on the list of hobbies in the python developers survey needs to take a vacation for the safety of themselves and everyone around them

@0xabad1dea I dunno, I read it as them giving developers cheeky options to choose to convey, especially if they don't have many hobbies to select, that their lives are plenty full as-is.
@0xabad1dea
I used to have this hobby where I fed my kids and took them to daycare in the mornings.
@0xabad1dea Whoever wrote the survey appears to have little idea what a hobby actually entails
@0xabad1dea hobbies are the things you do when you’re not working </sarcasm>
@0xabad1dea i don't have any hobbies
@0xabad1dea Isn’t that just American?
@0xabad1dea I could use more time to pursue my sleeping hobby.
@0xabad1dea Surprised They left out "Eating" and "Hygiene"
@catsalad @0xabad1dea those are in the side-hustle question

@catsalad @0xabad1dea

I'm surprised they left out their autonomic body functions 😆🤦‍♂️

@catsalad @0xabad1dea you can just do those at work. Or, just skip the latter, you’re supposed to be working.
@0xabad1dea To me it seems like an emergence resulting from too many burnt out devs putting "sleeping" (ironically or otherwise) in the "Other" field in the past...
@0xabad1dea you were not the only one who felt weird reading this.
@0xabad1dea DIY? DIY what?
@MRPurkesGuzman I assume they meant it as a catch-all for stuff like carpentry and 3D printing, but when the girls I know say DIY, they mean estrogen...
@0xabad1dea
Hobbies vs pastimes
I don't see this distinction made enough
@Squirrelly_Pawn setting aside that pastime is just an older word for hobby, these things are definitely not "pastimes" either
@0xabad1dea @briankrebs @mcc could be a way to identify people who need interventions?
