Trump told the military to use American cities as "training grounds". He told soldiers not to help their black or transgender minority colleagues. He told them to forget the NATO military alliance and pitched the option of attacking an allied country. He demeaned their international comrades from Afghanistan. And he ridiculed the fallen.

I predict, when the revolution comes, and revolutionaries close in on The White House, Trump will call the military, only to realize they have already arrived.

@randahl I'm an atheist but I like this saying and it fits what you just said -
From your mouth to god's ears
@randahl There will certainly not be 100% compliance, or 100% defection. I suspect it will be closer to the first than the second...but less so if American civilians are their target.
@randahl I think, maybe, you didn't go to high school with the people who volunteer for the US military. The military will save democracy just like the cops will save Minneapolis; don't count on it.
@randahl I’ve been wondering if the article 5 includes civil wars?
Let’s say; if a NATO country elects a wannabe dictator and that person starts killing and abducting civilians in the streets - and in the end people revolts and it leads to a civil war. Would that count as an attack at this country and would that mean, that NATO would have to get involved and fight on the side of the wannabe dictator?
Just a hypothetical question, because that would, of course never happen in real life.
@hellebelle to the best of my knowledge no, article 5 does not cover civil war. But in case of civil war in the US, countries in NATO will need to react, because so much of NATO security depends on a functional government in the US.
@randahl I guess that’s why he already talks about his doubt that NATO will ever show up for them if needed. Just to make sure they do.
@randahl
"Remember that the power which holds the game in station
Is only resignation by the millions that it rules
There aren't enough of armies to withstand a single hour
Against the raging power of no-longer-willing tools..."
@randahl Orange grease stain in a drainage pipe.

Calm down. Protest Portland style.
