Portable mini server! 👀 When plugged in, it hosts a tiny website available to anyone in network reach.
Thank you @kazc / @actinomy for the workshop and @ooooo for hosting us at t_cyberhol. Had lots of fun!

@semilanceata Very cool, and I love that it uses recycled batteries! Reminds me of this Iffy Books zine: https://iffybooks.net/wp-content/uploads/zines/Iffy_Books_Pocket_Wifi_Portal_Zine_screen.pdf

@semilanceata @kazc @actinomy @ooooo Loving it(!) The zine is very inspiring!

hey @deuxfleurs you're going to love that I'm sure :)

@semilanceata @kazc @actinomy @ooooo what's the hardware?

@linuxandyarn @ghosttie @kazc @actinomy @ooooo Yes! Also a LX-LCBST chip for battery management and a lipo battery recycled from a vape.
@semilanceata @linuxandyarn @ghosttie @kazc @actinomy @ooooo yes!!! I love that you used a recycled vape battery. I've been saving all my vape corpses so I can use the batteries for something. this is brilliant!

@semilanceata @kazc @actinomy @ooooo

Now *that's* a device which could be real handy in these troubled times.

> Portable mini server! 👀 When plugged in, it hosts a tiny website

When many people imagine a "server" they imagine a warehouse-sized datacentre owned by one of a handful of hyperscalers. Even decision-makers for major online services often can't imagine servers working any other way;

This little plugin server shows how a server can be human-scale, and server farms can be community-controlled infrastructure

📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms). It’s also concerning. 1/

@semilanceata Oh wow! I love this cute lil server. I want to make one. I will look at the material.
@semilanceata I've been thinking about something similar with addition of utilizing mesh WiFi system of ESP32 boards to allow servers to swap files when they are near each other long enough and files match some rules.
Ha this is brilliant
@semilanceata That's excellent! Unlimited LAN business cards! 😆

@semilanceata @kazc @actinomy @ooooo

That is such a cool idea. I wonder if you could make it run on a tiny solar panel and supercapacitor and have it attached to your backpack all the time :)

@semilanceata @kazc @actinomy @ooooo it needs to host a game of tic tac toe 🤔
@semilanceata @kazc @actinomy @ooooo I wish someone would host a workshop to make these in Canberra / Melbourne because I would absolutely go along and make fun things like this.

@emmadavidson @semilanceata @kazc @ooooo

maybe you can team up with someone and host it yourself :)) if you have any questions regarding hardware etc. we are happy to support!

@semilanceata @kazc @ooooo

@thunfisch @mikeful there are so many possible extensions from mesh networks to solar-powering, we'd love to see that happening!!

@semilanceata

Witzig 😅:

Tracks - Sneakernet: Internet ohne Netz - Komplette Sendung | ARTE

@semilanceata I like how it looks like it's saying “AAAAAAAA💚" at the bottom of its board(?) and I have no idea how intentional that is

@semilanceata @kazc @actinomy @ooooo @David

This is beyond cool and all of it in a TicTac container!

@semilanceata this is what I want to see when talking about the intersection of art and technology!
