A small friend is out for a gentle clean today.

@NanoRaptor I've got an old Compaq 286 luggable that I need to try to rescue, starting with the floppy drive, but in all my many boxes of ancient computer pieces I couldn't find a floppy-cleaner disk.

I found my floppy-cleaner-disk yesterday. (I just haven't had time to sit down and muck with it yet what with ice-storms and ADHD and life and stuff.)

...appropros of nothing in particular (autistic parallel-talk, maybe?)

@NanoRaptor these pics are so *cozy*. Thank you for sharing!

@NanoRaptor

I had one! Well our lab did was playing with it for instrument control. Darn fuzzy little CRT.

Miss the Lisa we had more.

@NanoRaptor I love how the definition of storage has changed. I think I was able to cram 15 5.25" floppies in that opening.

@chetwisniewski @NanoRaptor

I vaguely remember a story about how the instrutions in a user manual for a piece of office software had to be changed from "To do X, insert disk 2 in the floppy drive and press F8" to "To do X, remove disk 1 from the floppy drive and insert disk 2 and then press F8."

@NanoRaptor Oh my gosh - I first saw one of those in Dr Floppy at the top of Queen Street in Auckland back in the 80s. SO wanted to save up for it.

@NanoRaptor

Aww!

My only real memory of the SX-64 was a friend once bringing one down to their parents' beach house for a long weekend and us all playing Ghostbusters and California Games on that tiny screen.

The next time we just took my beige breadbin and plugged that into the telly instead. 😉

@NanoRaptor
I wish I hadn't sold mine. I just felt like I didn't have space. I did sell it to someone who promised to take good care of it.
@NanoRaptor A thing of beauty and a joy forever. I was up close and personal with one sometime in the late '80s.
@NanoRaptor I am so jealous. What a lovely SX64 😍
@NanoRaptor A good reminder. A loan from my grandparents helped me buy it as my first university computer, with the Z-80 card so I could run all the new things the uni CP/M archive. Back then, my eyes could even tolerate the 80 column mode on that tiny screen to use it as a terminal.
@NanoRaptor oooh! An SX-64! 😍
Only saw one in person once, at a fair. Always wanted one. Is it in working condition?
@fmarini It certainly is! slightly crackly sound that settles as it warms, but the rest is just peachy.
@NanoRaptor What a lovely friend. Tell it I said hi.
@NanoRaptor I love the SX64, I had one as a teenager and would love to own one again.
@NanoRaptor I need to rebuild the keyboard on mine; the membrane is highly unreliable, I guess? There also seems to be a problem with the cartridge port. I'll have to find some kind of guide.

@NanoRaptor

I grew up playing games on one of these! Seeing this took me back.

@NanoRaptor
Wait, are you doing Wikipedia pages for your creations now?

@NanoRaptor
First one I saw in person was 1985... Back then it was huge nerd cred in my circles (also, fuck that guy for having the money to buy it 😅)

Wow, I've never even heard of that one.

@NanoRaptor

@NanoRaptor you gonna turn it into a #DX64 with dual floppies?
