Phew! Finished my setup of Obsidian as a crossplatform Apple Notes replacement on my Mac and ios devices and am quite happy with the results so far. Here are my steps:

Subscribed to Obsidian Sync and created a vault called Notes. Added it to all of my devices making sure to place the local folders in a spot not already syncing via icloud (harder than I thought)

Installed and set up these plugins:

- Inbox Organizer
- Notebook Navigator

Bought the Quick Capture for Obsidian app for ios and set it to send to inbox

Set up the Obsidian webclipper on my browsers

Anything else I should be doing?

Slowly inching my way out of the Apple ecosystem (which I love! sob) and trying to find alternatives to American big tech.

@annewalk Hi! Nice to hear someone else switching to Obsidian. For your posts, folks might be interested how much the whole set-ups cost on a monthly basis, and any uses cases you're comfortable sharing.

@maryseph Sync costs are on the Obsidian site. for me, it’s ~$8 per month paid annually since I want to sync more than one vault. I feel like it’s a small price to pay for the hard work the devs do. The Quick Capture for Obsidian ios app I bought is lifetime cost of $5. Peanuts. That’s it for cost.

As for what I’m using it for.. so far, I’ve got one vault set up to replace Apple Notes and another to replace Scrivener which isn’t available on my new Linux setup.

I’ll see how this goes before I go nuts with it.

@annewalk Just as another alternative - I'm syncing my Obsidian vaults using Nextcloud. Works beautifully, and one less subscription I need to pay for.
