I hate “Smooth Scrolling” and wonder if this is because of my setup (Linux, Firefox, desktop keyboard, mouse/trackball - since forever) and it just works better on other systems (Win/Mac/Laptops)?

Do people generally like it? Why is it on by default (in various tools)?

@kommadieb it's easier to keep track of where you were when your eyes can follow how the page moves, as opposed to when it jumps in one click. I use smooth scrolling (middle mouse click + drag) when someone else is also looking at my screen

Imo the single-frame jump is better when you're the one scrolling because otherwise you're waiting for an animation. It's always the same scroll distance (unless the site hijacked it 😡) so with a tiny bit of practice it's faster and you shouldn't lose track
