What is the English equivalent of ”Die finden alles raus!”? @jon

#RailBaltica not done in 2030 says EU auditor. Yeah I wonder when they will order trains? Heard nothing of that either so far

EU audit: Rail Baltica's first stage will not be done by 2030

It is highly unlikely that either the first phase of the Rail Baltica project or the project as a whole will be completed by 2030, as concluded by the European Court of Auditors, LSM.lv reports.

@vermeer @jon

Surprise surprise...

@XanderVeitch @vermeer @jon Interesting that the Basque Y got delayed by 7 to 12 years (depending on who you ask) in just 5 years. Making negative progress!
@cycling_on_rails @XanderVeitch @vermeer I don't understand Basque Y. The vast majority of it is done (at least the earth works), but there are some parts that do not advance. But I do not know WHY.

@jon @XanderVeitch @vermeer Sabotage from ETA, in a more subtle manner this time?

What I don't get is the opposition to Basque Y, the underwater 2GW electric link to France (might have been convenient during a country-scale blackout), etc.

It's not like the A-8 motorway carving through the mountains, the automobile shipping harbour near San Sebastian and the Petronor large-scale refinery in the mountains near Bilbao are pretty either... Car-first society I guess?

@jon @XanderVeitch @vermeer Reading about the history of the Lemóniz abandoned nuclear power plant may be insightful about the Basque context: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lem%C3%B3niz_Nuclear_Power_Plant

@jon @cycling_on_rails @XanderVeitch @vermeer I thought I’d try to glean information from the Spanish Wikipedia page, and there are pointers there as to why. Not necessarily in the objective information there, but rather the way it has been written as an anti-Spain rant, very unlike a normal Wikipedia article.

I suspect that local resistance to the project, which appears to be widespread enough to be vocal, may play a part in this.

@moof @jon @cycling_on_rails @XanderVeitch @vermeer …Uh, yeah, the second section being a five paragraph rant on nomenclature that veers into points on how it's not _really_ high-speed because it's only going to be 220 kph max, and even then more like 180 in practice, does seem to set a certain _tone_
@HaTetsu @moof @jon @XanderVeitch @vermeer lol, still vastly faster than the FEVE network with all its curves and sometimes as low as 40 km/h sections. On the upside in the Basque country Euskotren is electrified modern trains.
@moof @jon @cycling_on_rails @XanderVeitch @vermeer Also trying to draw a distinction between "tren de alta velocidad" and ""tren de velocidad alta" (the latter is supposed to mean 160~200 kph?), what the heck?
@moof @jon @cycling_on_rails @XanderVeitch @vermeer Surprisingly enough, the Basque version, as far as a cursory look at the structure/links/loanwords goes, seems more reasonable (ie. the sections that are supposed to be about the facts are structured as such and don't go into rants about the definition of "high-speed train" and such)
@jon @cycling_on_rails @XanderVeitch @vermeer Aargh, you missed possibly the best ever chance to use this meme (sorry)… 😆
