I am pining for an Eye of the Beholder/Legend of Grimrock-like. Maybe it's been long enough I could just play Grimrock again?

My Steam searches for party-based RPGs have not turned up a whole lot that looks right.

(On the other hand, I recall being annoyed at how "kiting" in a 2x2 square was such a dominant strategy, above considerations such as party build.)

@markgritter Same here! I really feel that those two games are the pinnacle of the genre for their era.

I have a half dozen other dungeon crawlers wishlisted from the last decade but I don't think any of them are supposed to be quite as good as Grimrock.

There are some classics that I have yet to play though like the original Lands of Lore. Westwood went on to make that after Eye of the beholder II. I can't wait to give that one a shot at some point.

@markgritter I discovered Heroes of a Broken Land a while back, didn't get very far (so much to do, so little time) but it seems promising!

Heroes of a Broken Land on Steam

A Broken Land, shattered by the Wizards of old, the Fragments of the Old World are adrift in the Void. You must visit and restore each Fragment of the Void, only then can the World be rebuilt. However you are trapped in a crystal body, unable to act alone. Heroes of a Broken Land is a turn-based, dungeon crawling, town management RPG.

That game looks interesting. I really like the isometric look of the hex grid used for the overworld.

Thanks for recommending it. Added to the wishlist!

Yeah, it's a unique combo of different game mechanics I hadn't seen together before. Graphics are primitive looking but faithful to that 90s D&D style. I really should come back to it soon

@markgritter is Underkeep out yet? I’m waiting to The Secret of Weepstone. If you haven’t played Operencia, that’s rather neat too.
