Looks like Richard Garriott is going to try and regain copyright to the Ultima series next year.

This is still, very much, a work in progress, but now, you can actually play through ascii maps. I worked on passing the ascii layout to the javascript port of Richard Garriott's DND1.
So I made an ascii representation of the first dungeon in the D&D red box. And I can now pass that to the DND1 engine, and you can play it. I mean, it is not going to be the same experience. It does not implement a bunch of features that would need to be done to have static monster encounters, and scripted events and other things like that. But, maybe, one day, I will get around to enhancing it.
EDIT Also, this means you can go make your own maps. You can see the above map in the ascii to svg tool.
Lately, I've been playing a bit of Torment: Tides of Numenera, and I'm not sure why this didn't get more love from classic cRPG fans.
It's made by inXile (founded by the legendary Brian Fargo of Interplay fame) and truly does feel like an appropriate spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment. Incredible lore/writing, an immensely appealing GUI, seemingly great characters... it really does have it all
I have my issues with Garriott's worldview and Shroud of the Avatar had some problems, but this is another one of those whitepill scenarios like Perifractic buying Commodore!
Absolutely insane news. Ultima is THE grandfather of the modern computer RPG, alongside Might & Magic and Wizardry. Having this series back in its' creator's hands and possibly getting some new titles in the series would be outstanding!
Finished Skald: Against the Black Priory this week. Fantastic game. Really nails the dark fantasy vibe. I love a game where you start out feeling like a bottom of the barrel wretch, and grow into a proper hero.
Bregor went from scrounging for broken arrows and stealing food to being given the keys to the magical armory and facing down cosmic horrors beyond his comprehension.
Ready, steady, go; we are ON-AIR! See you stream-side, fedizens.

Our 100th episode's part 2 will focus on 4 major games that were the first to be properly called "rogue-likes".
The first of which will be a deep dive on Moria! An open-source redesign of Rogue, you descend 50 levels to fight the all-powerful Balrog.
It pioneered the concept of a starting town, loot farming, and so much more!
