Have you ever wondered why Germans didn’t do anything about Hitler? Well, the rest of the world is wondering exactly that about Americans and Trump.
@Strandjunker Seriously? This is a disgusting comment. One that shows a total lack history and empathy of what happened during the Second World War.
@amszmidt @Strandjunker they don’t care about being honest. It’s framing with no backing. It’s a willful manipulation of words to attribute that which is doesn’t apply. If trump was a nazi he’d nationalize the corporations and rid us of the federal reserve. He’d be taking away property and removing the press. None of which happened the first 4 years and definitely won’t fly these last 4. I hope eventually we can stop caring about trump and focus on the people.
@v4hrz1 @amszmidt @Strandjunker “If Trump was a Nazi” Dude! Just give Humpty time, he will, when his co-conspirators agree and he has consolidated power behind his empire. Everything right now is straight out of the 1938 Nazi Germany playbook, brown shirts are already roaming our streets murdering citizens, if you have not yet noticed. 🤔
@amszmidt You do know Hitler wasn’t only in power during WWII, right?
@ahltorp I’m very well of the history. My grad parents and relatives got slaughtered by the fuck. So now please fuck off.
@amszmidt @Strandjunker
I'll just post this image. Anyone who's read about history knows what it is.
~
@Strandjunker what does the rest of the world do about him?
@Strandjunker we are doing what we can. we are protesting in the streets we are being gassed and shot. we are pressuring our legislators. but we are also fighting a disinformation campaign.
@Strandjunker It's going to come down to non-cooperation on a large scale. MAGA still needs the rest of the country whether they like it or not. One week of diminished economic activity if we could do it.
@Strandjunker The trouble is they are fighting a remorseless Fascist Machine with mini court challenges and citing rules and regulations with the firm belief that somewhere the system will work itself out. I think many are in a state of denial at this point and are refusing to acknowledge the true nightmare that they have yet to face.
@Strandjunker @Strandjunker I would say we are. Germany was one culture. We are many, Germany is about the size of Montana. As of now 81 million we are 318 million, we have 50 separate state governments with rights. The majority of Americans do not have never have approved of Trump. He is coming apart just like Hitler but the opposition has been peaceful against violence despite being obscenely armed. Our allies shouldn’t give up on us. Despite some comparisons this isn’t 1930’s Germany
@lillyfinch @Strandjunker
thank you Catherine Schmidt.
the Montana Germany size comparison is a keeper.
@DonChacale @Strandjunker also, our military, which I believe to be loyal to the constitution, is only 1% of the population

@Strandjunker this is a very limited perspective you have, but not necessarily an entirely wrong one.

The idea that nobody's doing anything is simply ignoring the reality on the ground. Even now, places like Minneapolis are doing things. America is a big place, and larger than Europe. It doesn't work the same way here that it works everywhere else, simply based on size.

@otto42 The size argument, always the size argument. You can’t have proper elections, because of the size. You can’t have communities, because of the size. You have to invade everyone, because of the size. It’s just an excuse, nothing more.
@ahltorp Believe it. I am a Philadelphian and I cannot do anything but vote.
@ahltorp I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, because we do have proper elections.

@Strandjunker

We know the answer to this one already

Germans did not do anything about Hitler because the wealthy & influential didn't want to pay taxes, refused to fix a financial mess they made, refused to pay war debts for the conquests & looting they demanded

Instead they ginned up hate campaigns & more wars

Billionaires & bigots, the forever alliance made in hell

The Nazi Past of US Geopolitics

Geopolitics is the linking of political power to geographic space. Perhaps Zbigniew Brzezinski’s Grand Chessboard remains one of its best abstract

@Strandjunker Read Götz Aly's "Wie konnte das geschehen?" and everything which is happening now is described in that book as what was happening then. We have not learned from history.

@Strandjunker

I can think of a few reasons re: Germany and several have to do with the Social Democrats.

@Captain_Jack_Sparrow

@Strandjunker
The Treaty of Versailles is often seen as a cause of World War II because it imposed harsh reparations and territorial losses on Germany, leading to economic hardship and national humiliation. This environment of resentment and instability contributed to the rise of extremist ideologies, including Nazism, which ultimately sought to overturn the treaty and restore Germany's power. 😈 🖖
@Strandjunker Well, in Germany a new fascism is right around the corner. We are not far behind.

@Strandjunker

As in any country, there is always resistance.
I previously posted a photo of the Edelweiss Pirates who opposed Hitler, and this user @amszmidt blocked me. Perhaps he doesn't read much about history.

@Strandjunker many Americans are also wondering, while doing whatever we can :/

@Strandjunker “Such a splendid sunny day, and I have to go. But how many have to die on the battlefield in these days, how many young, promising lives... What does my death matter if by our acts thousands are warned and alerted. Among the student body there will certainly be a revolt.”
Sophie Scholl. As quoted by Else Gebel, in letter to Robert Scholl (November, 1946).

“I’m not mad at you.”
Renee Good

@Strandjunker Can't believe I'm saying this, but Hitler did socially improve many lives (always with the goal of war, never for the sake of the people). Just today in class we talked about how Hitler indoctrinated the youth: the youth organisations actually offered something to the kids. Activities, trips. After the great depression, these were things that they could not have imagined. The orange one otoh is objectively making even the lives of white people worse, they still stand by him.
@Strandjunker Most everyone I know is in denial.
@Strandjunker I suspect human nature is the culprit for a variety of self serving, bigoted, “can’t be bothered until it affects me before I’ll overturn my personal economy” reasons.
@Strandjunker the case of the #USA is even worse because not only didn't 1930s #Germany not have literature on hand re: #fascism and survivor accounts, but also it neither had a #2A (and it's equivalent got abolished in 1972 for no valid reason!) nor weren't said.means widespread and commonplace!
