Thanks to LoGo for the disk!
This disk is insanely rare. Like not just the usual eBay "L @ @ K RARE OMG A 40-YEAR-OLD SAVE ICON" but like this is the only original copy known to exist. It came boxed and shrink-wrapped with manual and all paperwork intact. (They will be uploaded soon.) And as far as we can tell, the disk was literally never booted...
...
...because it was mis-mastered and didn't work.
Side B is supposed to have a protection track on the last track (0x22), but it's missing. Not malformed; totally missing. Like they had a two-step mastering process and skipped step 2. The protection code is there (on side B + caller on side A), and it runs — and fails, naturally — and the game refuses to load.
We have analyzed the disk at the flux level, and we've concluded that this is how the disk was shipped in-box. There is no indication that any part of the disk was overwritten later.
So how did I create a working .woz that passes the protection check? I replaced track 0x22 with the protection track from another Adventure International game (Spiderman, specifically). They used the same protection for the lifetime of the company. All the Scott Adams graphic adventure disks used it, plus some of their educational titles.
This is not a "bit copy." With modern tools, I can replace the mis-mastered track digitally and create a perfect replica of what the disk was supposed to be.
@a2_4am Scott Adams is still kicking around and updating his blog so I wonder if you might ask him if he recalls anything about it.
@a2_4am never played the game but the movie is one of my guilty pleasures.
Your toot has just put me in mind to watch it again.

Sadly I only ever managed Mathematician/Pianist/Cyclist.. never the whole Physicist/Brain Surgeon/Rock Star/Samurai combo. ;)
