Ok #typography Fedi, let's talk about this sign. *Is* that a hyphen? Because it sure looks like an endash or maybe even an emdash to me.

So are they just trolling us with the name or are they trying to be clever?

@gairdeachas I'll go for endash because of the space before it. Far too wide for a hyphen.
@gairdeachas I see an emdash

@gairdeachas also why would I naturally associate wines with dashes, as the sign seems to imply? I feel irritated about this

If you sell organic wine or something, just say that!

@gairdeachas Definitely a dash of some sort. As to the motive, I'm inclined to put it down to lack of awareness. The sign-designer or -painter didn't want the symbol to get lost - so they made it bigger, without realizing that in doing so they morphed it out of being a hyphen and into something else.
@gairdeachas en-dashes are as long as a capital N is large. Em-dashes are as long as a capital M is large. So I say en-dash.
@gairdeachas or does the designer not know the difference

@gairdeachas

Clever marketing! Using a dash instead of a hyphen is a guaranteed way to get fedi folks all talking about you're brand which we would ignore otherwise!

@adamsaidsomething feels like targeted nerd sniping, right!?

@gairdeachas

We don't know because we don't know the font size. That's my analysis. :)

@gairdeachas I give them six months before they fold. Unless, of course, it's a front for a money-laundering organization.
@gairdeachas It's wider than the lowercase n to the left. I vote em dash.
@gairdeachas clearly an em-dash, its wider than the <n> right next to it!
