Let’s Call a Murder a Murder

Caitlin Callenson’s courage in the face of insane danger is just remarkable.

Daring Fireball
@daringfireball It is worth remembering, in moments like this, that ICE had its budget increased tenfold overnight. There is no way for it to absorb that expanded budget responsibly (if there were anyone in a position of authority who wanted to be responsible). They are on a hiring spree looking for people who will soak up budget, and will take whatever warm bodies they can find. They will get guys who want to play with guns and feel tough. They are running recruitment ads on TV looking for disaffected cops.
@daringfireball I agree we should call murder murder. I think we should also start calling these ICE “agents" what they are analogous to: the SA. A lot of them are already wearing brown.
@daringfireball i’d guess that Good was probably not even aware that ICE guy was in front of her car. The other guy by her door was yelling for her to get out of the car and reaching in her window. She was probably looking at him and panicked because of how they approached her car and didn’t turn her head forward until she threw it in drive and turned the wheel to the right. And like a second later he shoots.
@vinnie123 @daringfireball that’s a really good point and one I hadn’t even considered. She probably didn’t even know he was there.

@daringfireball There were so many things to try to process after seeing this yesterday. But 2 bits stood out:

1. It’s quick, but the reactions of his colleagues. They knew straight away this was fucked up. They walk away instantly. Not even a hint of consideration to assist the driver or communicate with the murderer. One of them instantly pulls his mask up, priorities.
2. The killer’s nonchalant reaction. He rolls out like he’s just done something mundane.

@daringfireball I'm curious if she shot it landscape/widescreen or has one of the new phones that auto does orientation no matter how you hold your phone?
@daringfireball @robmille which phone does that?
@nicolas17 @daringfireball I thought the new 17s did with the square image sensor so it can do portrait or landscape whichever is appropriate no matter how you hold the phone. Or is that photos only and not video? I would think the same sensor is used for photos & video and has similar or same capabilities.
@robmille @daringfireball that's only for the front/selfie camera

@daringfireball Well said. These people are brutal animals, and it takes bravery from the common citizen to stand up to their brutality.

@daringfireball

Extremely well said, thank you.

I watched the video before reading your analysis, finding myself primarily in similar awe of her courage and inability to be shaken.
